Everything in Moderation! (By: Kimberly A. Tessmer, RD LD)
With the holidays coming up there will be so many foods you want to taste! You should be able to consume any food in moderation. While some studies have indicated that too much variety and too many foods to choose from can actually lead to overeating, nothing needs to be off-limits! In fact depriving yourself can often lead to an all-out binge. The key is moderation! You can taste all the foods at the Thanksgiving buffet but use small portions just to taste! Remember to eat until you are comfortable and NOT stuffed. That can make all the difference in the amount of calories you consume for the day!

Heartburn a Problem? (By: Kimberly A. Tessmer, RD LD)
Many people suffer from the uncomfortable symptoms of heartburn and/or acid reflux. With the holidays coming up and the big meals you will partake in it may be helpful to know a few tips to help lessen your symptoms. Don't eat a large meal or snack within two hours of going to bed. This doesn't give your stomach enough time to digest the food that you consumed and allow acid levels to decrease. Avoid eating late at night and lying down after meals, especially that big Thanksgiving meal! Elevating the head of your bed by two to three inches will help keep the upper portion of your body in an elevated position and the reduce the potential for acid reflux. Stay away from foods that you know will cause acid reflux for you. Don't be tempted by the holidays and have to pay for it later! Most importantly, if heartburn is a consistent problem for you see your doctor immediately! Don't continue to take over-the-counter medications that may relieve the symptoms but not the underlying problem!
