Weight Loss Tip:

Foods That Burn Fat?

(By: Kimberly A. Tessmer, RD LD)

There is much misinformation to be found on the Internet and when it comes to weight loss you can multiply that ten times over!  One popular concept is that there are certain foods such as grapefruit, celery, or cabbage soup that actually burn fat and can result in weight loss.  The fact IS that NO food can burn fat.  Food itself does not speed up your metabolism and burn calories.  The best way to lose weight is to eat healthier, watch portion sizes and exercise regularly!

SplendaŽ: A New Way to Sweeten Up

(By: Kimberly A. Tessmer, RD LD)

Looking for ways to make your holiday treats a little less rough on the waistline?  How about trying SPLENDAŽ this year.  SPLENDAŽ is the brand name for the ingredient sucralose.  SPLENDAŽ No Calorie Sweetener contains sucralose, which is a no calorie sweetener made from sugar.  It tastes like sugar and has no unpleasant aftertaste. Although sucralose is made from sugar, the body does not metabolize it in the same way it does sugar or carbohydrates.  Instead it is not metabolized by the body, so it is calorie-free.

In general SPLENDAŽ can be used anywhere you would use sugar.  It can be used in cooking and baking in your favorite recipes.  SPLENDAŽ also contains a very small amount of the common food ingredients, dextrose and/or maltodextrin, for volume. Because the amount of these ingredients is so small, SPLENDAŽ still has an insignificant calorie value per serving and it does meet the FDA's standards for "no calorie" sweeteners.

You can trust SPLENDAŽ as a safe product.  In fact, more than 100 scientific studies on sucralose conducted over a 20-year period have demonstrated the safety of SPLENDAŽ. The data from these comprehensive studies were independently evaluated by the FDA and other international scientific experts. The safety of sucralose has also been confirmed by years of both domestic and international use.  This product has been show suitable for diabetics also.

For a few lower calorie, lower sugar treats this holiday season try baking some of your favorite recipes with SPLENDAŽ.  Check out their web site for more information and for recipes!  http://www.splenda.com

One For the Good Guy

(By: Kimberly A. Tessmer, RD LD)

One of the best arguments for performing daily aerobic exercise including walking, biking, jogging, or swimming is that it can help to reduce the risk of heart disease, especially if that increased activity helps you lose weight too. Research has shown that aerobic exercise is the best way to raise HDL's, (or the "good" cholesterol), which helps carry harmful cholesterol and fats out of your system.  In addition it can help to lower LDL's (or the "bad" cholesterol) as well as triglycerides.  Now WHO can argue with that!!
