A Cooking Tip Saver!

(By: Kimberly A. Tessmer, RD LD)

Fat-free cooking spray seems to be a common dieter's pantry staple!  These sprays can keep food from sticking to pans and grills and add the flavor of olive oil, herbs and butter, while eliminating the need for cooking fats such as butter or vegetable oils that can add up to excess calories and fat. A one-second spray of your favorite fat-free cooking spray, compared to a tablespoon of vegetable oil, is enough to coat the bottom of a pan and can save you as much as 115 calories and 7 grams of fat.

You Don't Need Health Food Stores to Eat Healthy!

(By: Kimberly A. Tessmer, RD LD)

Just because foods are sold at health food stores doesn't necessarily mean they are healthier?  There are all types of foods available in supermarkets that are just as healthy as those sold in health food stores. It really depends on the food choices that you make. The biggest difference is cost and variety. Health food stores often have less variety and this usually leads to much higher prices.  Check out your grocery store for healthy foods.  Most large chain grocery stores now offer all types of soy foods, organic foods, all natural foods, etc...  Not to mention the foods they have always carried such as fresh vegetables, fresh fruits, whole grains and lean meats!

While your hands are free, try a little lifting with a dumbbell set.
